Tufts Dance Troupe Will Show Their True Colors

April 4, 2008

Spirit of Color is holding their annual Spring Show on April 25, for which students have been preparing all semester. It will be the culmination of a long and productive practice season. For seniors, it will be especially bittersweet, as this will be the end of four productive and fulfilling years with the dance troupe.

Open auditions are held during the semester, and the choreographers select the dancers for their specific exhibition. Students choreograph their own dances, in addition to performing. One does not have to be in the dance troupe to perform in their show: audience participation is encouraged, especially through the dance contest that occurs at the midpoint of the show.

The goal of the organization is to provide “a means of cultural expression through singing, acting, and dancing.” The Spirit of Color is not bound by any creative constraints and it is an organization that reflects the ethnic and cultural diversity of Tufts. Jazz, hip-hop, tap dancing and ballet, as well as regional and cultural styles are featured in the show. Andalusian Flamenco dancing is a recent addition, as well as Capoeira, a Brazilian fusion of martial art, game, and dance.

The Spring dance show promises an eclectic blend of dance styles that the audience will have never seen before. For those who like to stick to the familiar, the show will highlight many traditional dance structures. Spirit of Color will provide something for everyone. So be sure to plan ahead and get your tickets early for their Spring Show. It will be an uproariously entertaining performance and one that you will not soon forget.

Tickets are on sale at the Cohen Auditorium Box office.
